Product detailed description
"Natural disasters will soon be known only from history textbooks!" declared Professor Sêni Lativ, head of the meteorological manipulation project at Lightning Technology. The latest tests of his newest invention, a weather control machine, brought promising results. The idea that soon floods will end, typhoons will be tamed, and the world will be rid of droughts brought a smile to his face.
In the game Weather Machine, you become scientists working in Prof. Lativ's team, under whose leadership you have been manipulating the weather for some time now: adjusting rainfall for farmers' needs, maintaining a steady wind and clear skies to ensure a supply of energy from renewable sources, but also shifting the temperature to perfectly suit sports matches and visitors to tourist resorts. The prototype weather control machine has always flawlessly fulfilled its tasks. However, with each activation, you slowly realize that using the machine comes with a disturbing side effect. Every time you adjust the weather with its help, conditions change elsewhere on the planet – it seems the machine is subject to the "butterfly effect."
Professor Lativ's dream of the end of natural disasters quickly turned into a nightmare of the end of humanity. You continue testing the machine, but each subsequent activation brings increasingly worse calamities. One day, the professor strides resolutely into the laboratory, followed by a group of people in suits with stone-cold expressions. Government officials have realized the gravity of the situation and understood that only Prof. Lativ's team can save the world from the destruction he caused. "We must build a new prototype," the professor announces, and the delegates cast concerned glances at him, "...but this time, it must be perfect." The delegates nod silently and sternly. "The government will provide us with the funds, and we must succeed."
Professor Lativ begins to explain his plan, and it immediately becomes clear that massive supplies of robots and chemicals will be needed. But materials are not everything. Time is crucial: you must fully concentrate and not waste a single moment, or you will have no chance to prevent a horrific global catastrophe! You must adjust the Earth's atmosphere before conditions become so inhospitable that not only the entire Homo sapiens species will perish but also countless other animals in all climate zones.
Whatever the outcome of your efforts, Professor Sêni Lativ will forever be known as a mad, albeit brilliant scientist. However, if you succeed and humanity survives, you and your colleagues have a chance to enter history as saviors of humanity and the planet.
Story by Nathan Morse
"This game is fiction, but for me, it is also a parallel to human influence on the climate over the past 150 years. The familiar-sounding story can be summarized like this: we started playing with the weather, and although we may have done so with good intentions, each further intervention in the world's balance only worsened the situation. Now panic has set in, and everything needs to be fixed before it's too late. The biggest paradox is that those who find a solution will be richly rewarded, even though they were the ones who awakened this untamable monster."
"I believe that Weather Machine is a completely unique game. Each individual mechanism works in its own unusual way, but at the same time, it is part of a larger whole that exists for one single purpose: to correct extreme weather fluctuations. The whole game IS a weather control machine. And that's why it's unique. I truly believe that you won't find another game with a worker placement mechanism that interconnects similar mechanisms in this way."
