In 1713, King John V of Gaul sent Lieutenant Francisco de Melo Palhet to travel to French Guiana and secretly bring coffee tree seeds to Brazil (then Portuguese). By 1800, Brazil was already one of the largest coffee producers in the world.
Drinking coffee became very popular in Portugal and by the early 20th century, coffee beans from Brazil, São Tomé and Príncipe, Angola and Timor formed part of the most prized blends.
In Café, players manage the trading companies that grow, process and supply coffee to the most exquisite cafés in Portugal's Belle Époque era.
