Looking up at the starry night sky, she wondered why she wasn't one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. "I should think of something in which I can be spoken of in the same breath as these famous creatures." Then, as she turned to get another sprout, the idea for this play was born...

Year of the Panda is a card game based on the acquisition of so-called tokens. The key element of the game is the unique mechanic of turning over cards whose value changes during the game.

During the game, players lay out cards in tricks as individuals, in sets, in series, or in formations (two consecutive pairs, two consecutive triples, etc.) If you are the first player in a trick, lay out whatever you want, except for the bomb, which is four or more cards of the same rank. Players in turn order must lay down a higher matching set of cards, such as a higher three of a kind, or pass, after which they can no longer play in trick. (The bomb cannot be laid down first in style, but can be played on any combination of cards.)
