Pocházím z lidu vypravěčů. Příběhy našich stařešinů mluví o dobách, kdy nás z domovů vyhnal mráz, hlad a neúnavní dravci. V zoufalství jsme se rozhodli následovat stěhovavá stáda přes beringijský most, daleko, až na nový kontinent. Byla to dlouhá a obtížná cesta. A teď tu stojíme, jako živý důkaz toho, že se našim otcům podařilo přežít. Náš nový domov pokrývá led a sníh, a i přesto jsme hrdými vítězi. Zem je to drsná a nelítostná, ale naše. Jsme houževnatý lid věčné zimy. Život v krutých podmínkách nás zocelil a mnohému naučil. Kmenoví průzkumníci dokážou mezi ledovci a skalisky najít ta nejlepší místa pro naše vesnice. Lovci jsou schopni stopovat a ulovit i tu největší zvěř. Jediný mamut nasytí osadu na celé týdny. Stařešinové předávají své zkušenosti z generace na generaci. Bez nich by se náš odkaz navěky rozplynul mezi živly. A s námi se rozvíjí i náš um, naše náčiní, naše rituály. Naším největším rádcem jsou nebesa. Když slunce spolkne temnota, je to předzvěstí velkých změn. Tak nadchází doba obřadů, oslav a klání. I teď stojíme na prahu nového věku a jsme to právě my, vůdci tohoto nezdolného kmene, k nimž se znovu obrací všechen lid...
