Note for the 2nd edition: This edition will be identical to the 1st edition with the difference that it will contain the rules and tables of the 2nd edition and that all known errors will be corrected.
US Civil War is a war game for 2 players at a strategic level about the American Civil War. The game covers the entire war from 1861-65 on a large map area of 30" x 44" (2 included maps) of the southeastern United States. Turns represent 3 months during winter and 2 months during summer, with each turn having four action phases.
Military forces are represented by generals and strength points (SP). Each SP represents approximately 5,000 soldiers. Game mechanisms emphasize strategy, maneuvering, and command, but also include details such as ironclads, naval battles, promotion of commanders, fortresses, and raiders.
Shorter scenarios covering only the years 1861, 1862, and 1863 are also included.
Players of the games The Civil War by Eric Lee Smith (VG) and For the People by Mark Herman (AH and GMT) will see many similarities between this game and these two reference games. These two great games inspired many rules and concepts used in this game.
