Sails of Glory is a game series simulating naval battles in the period 1650-1815, the age of sailing ships. The game system is based on the successful Wings of Glory (formerly Wings of War) game system and has been modified and expanded to faithfully depict sailing ship battles. It combines the mechanics of miniatures, board and card games. The game includes already painted 1:1000 scale ship miniatures. The unique characteristics of each ship are represented in the game by different decks of manoeuvre cards. Players covertly choose the maneuver they want to perform and these are then revealed and performed at the same time. The manoeuvre card is attached to the ship model and the ship moves and turns according to the direction of the manoeuvre arrow. The cards show several possibilities of movement according to the wind direction and also (in the advanced game) according to the sails. After all ships have moved, they can fire the cannons on their sides.
