Root is a board game full of adventure and combat as players try to gain control of the forest realm. The shameful Marquise of the Cat has taken over a large area of the forest and is exploiting its riches. During her reign, therefore, many forest creatures band together to resist the domination of the cats.

The Alliance can call on the help of the mysterious Tramp, who can navigate even the most dangerous paths. However, while this Wanderer is sympathetic to the hopes and dreams of the Woodland Creature Alliance, he is also old enough to remember the great predators that once ruled the land. A proud and embattled dynasty of predators selects a new leader and hopes to lead them to reclaim their ancient claims.
