Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is dead. His last conscious act on his deathbed was to compose part of the Lacrimosa from the Requiem opus. As one of his sponsors, you will meet with his widow to contribute one last time to the financing of the work of the Austrian genius. You will also reminisce and recount all your experiences alongside Mozart to ensure that he portrays you in the best light in his memoirs, thus entering history as Mozart's most significant patron.
In the game Lacrimosa, players embody the roles of patrons of the deceased musician and contribute financially one last time to the composer's work. During the game, you play in two different timelines: the present and the past. In the present, you commission other composers to complete the missing parts of the Requiem. As the past events unfold, the game takes place in five epochs where you contribute by buying new compositions from the composer to sell or exhibit, accompany him on various journeys through the main courts and theaters of Europe, and gather the necessary resources to support the musician throughout his career.
During the game, you play cards from a limited number of cards that you will upgrade throughout the game. These cards can be played either as actions or as resource generators, and players must optimize their resources and finances to support their best version of the story and their relationship with Mozart.
