Product detailed description

Hannibal & Hamilcar is a two-player card political game that takes place during the Second Punic War, an epic battle between ancient Rome and Carthage. This conflict in many ways defined our modern reality. Rome took over 100 years to defeat Carthage in the competition, and three long wars were fought. Our game lasts significantly shorter. Some scenarios can be played in less than 30 minutes.

Hannibal was designed by one of the world's most respected designers, Mark Simonitch. This 20th anniversary edition of the game includes new scenarios and variants. Phalanx has simplified some game mechanisms, achieving the same gameplay results as the golden classic. The original rules and components of the game were updated by Mark Simonitch and Jaro Andruszkiewicz. Hannibal has won several awards, including the Golden Geek Best 2-Player Board Game Award and Golden Geek Best Wargame Award, and ranks 14th in the war games ranking on BoardGameGeek.com. Hannibal is actually more of an asymmetric political game than a war game. It represents the conflict between two ancient superpowers from a classical Clausewitzian perspective, according to which a superpower resorts to military operations only when there is no other way to achieve the goal: political dominance.

Also included in the anniversary edition is the long-awaited companion game Hamilkar. Hamilcar, set during the period of the First Punic War, is a standalone game using similar mechanisms. It introduces a naval system and exciting naval battles. Both players compete for control of the Mediterranean Sea in a conflict described as the first war between an elephant and a whale - the battle of a land empire against a world naval power. Rome's goal was to break the chain of islands of Sicily, Corsica, and Sardinia - Carthage's defensive line that was meant to hold Rome on the Italian Peninsula.

The game is in English.
