In Gates of Delirium, players hold two-sided cards-one side is a state of sanity, the other is a state of insanity. Each round, one player decides whether the round is sane or insane, and everyone must play the appropriate side of their card. During normal, sane rounds, players will search for maps and pages of the lost file. During the mad rounds, players collect the ancient runes needed to build the Gateway that will unleash the monstrosities they themselves, in their sane states, are trying to protect the world from. Whoever gets the most victory points by the time the gates open and the monsters escape wins.
