In the game Four Humours, you are a medieval doctor and everyone knows that your personality is determined by the imbalance of bodily fluids, the so-called four humours:
Choleric (yellow bile) - determined, decisive, ambitious.
Sanguine (red blood) - talkative, enthusiastic, sociable.
Melancholic (black bile) - Analytical, detail-oriented, reserved.
Phlegmatic (White bile) - Relaxed, calm, easy-going.
The Kingdom - composed of six map pieces with different locations - is full of all types of personalities, from choleric wizards to phlegmatic farmers. Prove that you are the best medieval doctor, and visit citizens throughout the kingdom to help them fulfill their life ambitions... or their lack thereof.
In each turn, you will play a personality elixir from your hand on a citizen on the scene card, determining their personality. Each citizen can be played one of two types of elixirs, and each token is played face down, so you know the citizen's personality, but none of the other players do. Once all citizens on the two scene cards are covered with elixirs, all elixirs are resolved in the following order:
A solitary choleric wins, while two or more are eliminated, then...
Two or more sanguines win, while one is eliminated, then...
Exactly two melancholics win, while more than two are eliminated and one disappears, then...
Any number of phlegmatics win.
Place the winning elixirs on the corresponding scene in the kingdom... If the melancholic token disappears, place the elixir on an adjacent scene connected by a path or bridge. After placing all elixirs, check if you have fulfilled any of the four randomly selected goals displayed, such as having an elixir on each of the six map pieces or occupying two pairs of locations connected by bridges. Then reveal four new scene cards and start the next round.
When a player achieves a goal, the first side tile is resolved. Party pieces are similar to scenes with citizens, but can be played on in your turn at any time during the game. Once players at the table achieve a total of six goals, the last side tile is resolved and the game ends. The player with the most fulfilled goals wins!
Alternatively, instead of playing on a shared kingdom board, you can play in "feudal" mode, where each player has their own feudal board. After resolving the scene cards, players place their winning personality elixir, covering the corresponding character in your fiefdom. The goals now prompt you to cover all characters of certain types or create a specific pattern in your fiefdom.
