Product detailed description
Flashpoint: South China Sea is a strategic game for two players that simulates a complex geopolitical struggle currently taking place between the United States and China in the disputed South China Sea region. The game is driven by a deck of cards that captures the development of events straight from today's newspaper headlines, supported by cards explaining recent history and a set of speculative cards capturing diverse potential future events.
The Chinese player seeks to influence other countries in the region, gain territorial claims and regional hegemony, and improve its position in the world. The American player seeks to maintain influence over allied countries in the region, ensure freedom of navigation, and keep China in check. The success of both players depends on the support and loyalty of non-player countries in the region. The game does not address the potential for full-scale military conflict. To achieve victory, it requires a finely tuned use of political, economic, and military resources, in the form of primary diplomacy - on the water, in the air, and ultimately in the minds of people.
