In Dixit, you become a storyteller and make up your own stories.

At the start of the game, each player is dealt a hand of picture cards. These are quite unusual, the pictures are very varied and unusually processed. One of the players becomes the storyteller - he or she secretly chooses one card from the hand and tells a story based on its picture, perhaps even one sentence, one word or one sound that relates to that card.

The other players will try to find the card that best describes the storyteller's story. Then all players, including the storyteller, place the cards face down in a pile on the table, shuffle the cards and line them up face up in a row. Players then make a secret guess as to which card is the storyteller's and thus best represents the story told.

Players who correctly guessed and the storyteller receive points for each correct identification of a card. Correct answers are scored by moving the wooden rabbits - the pieces - along a scoring scale, which is humorously placed inside the game box. The narrator then becomes the next player in the sequence and the round repeats. The winner is then the player who scores the most points at the end of the game.

The main joke of the game is for the player to correctly determine how to describe their card in detail. Too light or too heavy a description will result in fewer points, because too few or too many players will guess the correct solution.

The game is also suitable for children, for whom it develops the imagination.
