Product detailed description
Barbarians at the Gates, The Decline and Fall of the Western Roman Empire 337 - 476 is a card game for two players by game designer Kris van Beurden (known for games such as Europe in Turmoil), set in the last century of the Western Roman Empire. One player commands the Roman legions loyal to the declining central power and those Germanic nations that have peacefully settled within the Roman Empire, while the other player leads usurping emperors and directs the migration of wild Germanic nations, who are barbarians at the gates.
Barbarians at the Gates allows players to compete for the future of Western Europe from the time of Valentinian I and the first Vandal and Frankish migrations through Theodosius I and Gothic invasions to Attila and the Huns. Will there be enough left of Roman civilization to eventually spark a renaissance, or will Europe remain forever in the dark ages?
Will this series of events play out according to history?
